Happy Birthday!

Special birthday wishes today going out to my mom! I am lucky to have a really great mom. Whenever something goes wrong, or I need help, she's always there to lend a helping hand.

Mom is a pretty incredible lady. She graduated from college with a degree in chemistry back in the 1950's. Not only did most women not go to college at that time, but those who did generally stuck to traditional women's programs like nursing and teaching. She sure broke some barriers!

Later she married my dad, and they started a family, and she became a full-time mom. She stayed home with us kids until I (the youngest) was in elementary school. At that time, she went to work in the school math program, and went on to get her teaching certification. To this day, she still volunteers in a local elementary school teaching math.

My mom is one smart cookie who probably could have gone a great distance in the sciences. But she chose to put her family first, and establish a new career for herself when we had grown. I am very greatful for all the time and energy she was able to invest in our lives.
