Mommy Power!

I once read a commentary about the "luxury" of being a stay-at-home-mom. I remember laughing at the time, thinking that we were in no way living a "luxurous" life. Money is tight on one income, and there area lot of fancy things we do without. But as I thought about it more, I realized that for me, the "luxury" of being a stay-at-home-mom has nothing to do with material items, but rather with the opportunity I have to be with my boys. I am very lucky to have this opportunity.

Being a stay-at-home-mom is not easy though. It can be very isolating, especially when you suddenly move to a new area like we recently did. I've found it to be very important to get involved in different activities. I've got to get out of the house and interact with other moms!

Two of the groups I've become involved with are Moms Club and MOPS. Moms Club has activities throughout the week for both moms and tots, as well as some Mom's Night Out activities. MOPS is a non-denominational group for Christian moms of preschoolers, that meets one evening a month for dinner, activity, and fellowship.

Last night was the "end of the year banquet" for my Moms Club. It had been a rough day. I was exhausted. You know that feeling that you could just collapse at any moment. I was driving to the banquet thinking, "I'm just too tired. I should turn around and go home." But I continued on. With the help of a couple glasses of Coke and some great conversation, I actually stayed out until 10:30 p.m.! A real late-night! Driving home I was thinking, "This was just what I needed today." It is so refreshing, especially on a rough mommy-day, to get out with other moms and recharge a bit. I always feel the same way after my monthly MOPS meetings.

So if you are a stay-at-home-mom, get out. Join some groups. And feel how Mommy Power can recharge you a bit!
