Perhaps 2 years, 9 + months is too young...
We had looked forward to today for weeks. One of the local theaters has free family movies during the summer, and today was Jonah the VeggieTales Movie. Jonah is Michael's favorite. (Okay, he hasn't seen many movies. Just VeggieTales, Babe, and Lady & The Tramp.)
This was to be Michael's first trip in to a real movie theater. Everything he has seeen has been on DVD or video.
We got to the theater, and got in line for snacks. $13.75 later, we were heading to the theater with popcorn, Coke (for me) and lemonade (for Michael). Once we got in, Michael took one look around and started backing up. "Uh uh", he said (in between sips of lemonade!). Over and over again. He wanted no part of being in that theater!
So we went out to the lobby for a while. Perhaps after a little more lemonade and popcorn, plus seeing lots of kids going in to the theater, he might change his mind. We even saw some of his little friends, and they tried to coax him to come along. But there was no getting him to go back in. He just wanted to go bye bye.
I guess in a way it was a little disappointing. But only in the sense that this was a big first we had been looking forward to, and it wasn't going to happen. Not today anyway.
That's okay though. Frankly, most movies (including the G-rated ones) are totally inappropriate for his age. We don't need to rush anything. Like everything else in child-development, he will get there at his own pace.
So perhaps 2 years, 9+ months is too young. But that's okay. He can still watch Jonah at home, and the popcorn and lemonade here is quite a bit less expensive.
