Forgiveness and How to Help
I read an amazing quote online this morning. A reporter was gathering information at the site of the Amish school shooting in Pennsylvania. She began talking with an Amish gentleman, asking if any funeral arrangements had been made.
What she didn't realize at first was that she was speaking with the grandfather of two of the young victims.
After he stated he was the grandfather, the reporter asked him if there was any anger towards the gunman or his family. His response was that he said that he has already forgiven in his heart. He said it was possible "through God's help."
I am sure that this man is suffering an enormous amount of pain. I hope and pray I never have to even imagine what he is going through. Yet only a day after the incident, he has already forgiven.
This is yet another example of why I am totally fascinated with the Amish. I don't think I could forgive that quickly. I don't think I could separate forgiveness from anger and grief. But somehow, through their faith, they can.
Funds have been set up to assist with the needs of the victims (both medical and otherwise). Please visit http://www.coatesvillesavings.com/ for more information. In addition, those wishing to send cards or letters of condolence to the victims’ families may send them to Bart Township Fire Company, P.O. Box 72, 11 Furnace Road, Bart, PA 17503.

I too was amazed at the forgiveness. I suppose that is one of the things that make the Amish such an amazing people.
I admire it.
