Success!

It is 8:35 p.m. and Michael is asleep!

How did we do it?

Well, last night he would not go to sleep until about 12:30 a.m. But today was preschool day, so he had to be up at 6:30 a.m. (Needless to say, the morning was fun in our house today!) Off he went to preschool.

I decided either he would take a nap as soon as he got home (or at least after lunch), or there would be no nap. I'd keep him up. Make him tired enough to want to go to sleep tonight. Well, he wouldn't take his nap. Around 3 p.m., he seemed interested, but that was too late, so I just popped in one of his favorite movies downstairs for a little down time.

After dinner, we all piled in to the car and went to a great park nearby. Work off a little more energy!

I must admit, he was a bit difficult between returning from the park and going to bed, but he settled down and fell right asleep.

Let's see if we can make this work again tomorrow.

As an aside, we had a minor annoyance at the park. As you enter the park, there are lots of big signs that say NO PETS. When you enter the playground area, there are more signs that say NO DOGS.

Yet today, a family thought it appropriate to bring their little pooch not just in to the park, not just in to the playground, but up on to the climbing structures! This was not a service animal, to the best of my knowledge. (I've never seen a cock-a-poo service animal.) They just had the daughter running the dog all over the climbing structure, along with all the other kids that were there. Mom and dad just sat to the side chatting.

Do people think that rules are not for them? Are they just ignorant? Is there a literacy problem around here? (Although I think that the big picture of a dog with a line through it would have alleviated the last question.)

That could have been the nicest dog in the world. But a dog doesn't belong on a children's public climbing structure. We follow the rules with our dog, and we expect others to do the same with theirs.

I'm with you! It makes me crazy when dogs are in "no dog" places! I have two dogs and love them, but they don't belong where they don't belong!

Great job keeping Michael awake when he was supposed to be awake -- now he is sleeping when he is supposed to sleep! YIPPEE!

I remember when everything I did revolved around wearing my kids out so that they would sleep better at night. If I wore them out enough I could actually have an hour or two of peace before I slept!

Wishing you sweet dreams!
