A VERY Inconvenient Truth
I read a post over on Right Pundits today, and just had to comment.
There's been a lot of talk in the media lately about how despite Al Gore's lately discovery -- global warming -- and his movie "An Inconvenient Truth", that his house outside Nashville is actually an environmental mess. The common quote is, "Al Gore's Tennessee home uses over 20 times more energy than the average U.S. home."
This is not just an urban legend. Check it out for yourself on snopes.com.
But while Gore and his friends are busy attacking the Administration for their lack of an acceptable environmental plan, it is actually George W. Bush who owns a home full of features that are environmentally sound. Passive-solar. Geothermal heat pumps. Underground cisterns that recycle water. You can click here and here for additional details.
I certainly would not argue that we need to do more to improve the environmental status of our country and our world. But those who are going to attempt to be the leaders of the environmental movement would be better served by looking at their own homes and lives first.
To paraphrase a common quote, "Those who live in 10,000-foot energy-sucking-houses shouldn't throw stones." Especially not at passive-solar, geothermal, water recycling houses.
But perhaps Al Gore is too busy figuring how he invented the internet to get his facts straight on this one too.
