Carnival -- Charitable Causes
I've never done a blog carnival before, so here goes!
This weeks carnival topic at Crazy Hip Blog Mamas is "The charitable cause that is dearest to my heart..."
This one is easy for me.
In 1999, I did an "adopt a family" charity at Christmas. When it was over, I felt like I needed to do something to help out someone all year round. So I started doing research.
I decided to sponsor a child through Christian Childrens Fund.
The packet arrived in the mail, along with a picture of Novi from Indonesia. What a cute little girl she was, at 4 years old. I quickly wrote a letter, and in not too long, received a letter back.
I have been sponsoring Novi ever since. We exchange letters every few months, and it is a highlight whenever one arrives. I have saved every letter, and she says she has too.
At first, the return letters were written by her mother. We got to know the whole family that way. Now that Novi is older, she is writing the letters herself. Sometimes in English! She is growing well, learning a lot, and hopes to be a teacher one day.
Novi and her family have become part of our extended family. Our "Indonesian family". We pray for them, and they pray for us. We have shared stories of joy and sorrow.
So if you're looking for a charitable cause and don't know where to turn, why not try out Christian Childrens Fund!

I have never known anyone who actually has sponsored a family through the Christian Children's fund. Great post! Just here via CHBM
What a great post, thanks for sharing it at CHBM!
Our church has adopted a school in Africa and it's always so nice to see letters from the kids there :-)
