A Special Order Hat
The Crazy Hip Blog Mamas blog carnival is looking for, "Something I made that I was REALLY proud of…”. Well, this post is definitely one of those!
So what do you do when your son comes to you and says that the only hat they will wear is a yellow hat with a Blue's Clues on it? Well sure, you could go to the store and buy one, or find one online, right?
Not exactly.
Blue's Clues may be the greatest thing in the world to Michael, but as far as marketing goes, it's about five years ago. If not more. Occasionally you can find something with Blue's Clues on it, but the availability is slim, even online.
And yellow hats? Bright yellow baseball hats? That don't already have some team logo on them? Not real common either.
Try taking two things that are hard to find on their own, and combine them in to one item. I seriously doubt that a yellow baseball hat with a Blue's Clues on it has ever been made!
So what's a good mommy to do? Say, "Sorry kiddo. No Blue's Clues hat for you"?
No way!
You go online and find a pattern. A cross-stitch pattern. And go store to store looking for a plain yellow baseball hat -- in a kid's size. (Thank you WalMart for making that part a little easier!) And then you sit down and spend several hours creating a patch by cross-stitching a Blue's Clues on adia cloth. Then sew it on to the hat.
The end result? Here it is!
