Ants
Ah, summer in the south. Just when you finally adjust to the heat (or at least figure out how to beat the heat!), the bugs arrive.
The south is infamous for it's bugs. As soon as we talked about moving here, we heard stories of fire-ants, palmetto bugs, and termites. Thankfully we haven't encountered any of those.
But ants. Those nasty, tiny, black ants. I think our bug-man said they are carpenter ants. We first got hit with them a few days after moving in to our house. The kitchen was crawling with literally thousands of ants. We sprayed as much as we could, and then called in the bug-man.
Now we have a "pest-contract". That means we pay them to come out 4 times a year, and if we have any bugs in between, they come out and take are of them for free. We've had to call twice for new infestations. The most recent of which hit yesterday.
Imagine thousands of little tiny ants all over your kitchen. Up and down the walls. All around the crown molding. In the cabinets. All over the food in the cabinets. All over the dishes. In the drawers. EVERYWHERE.
I am itching just thinking about it.
Thankfully the bug-man was back out here at 8:30 this morning. Good thing, since we have a cookout planned at our house tonight! He confirmed that he cleaned up thousands of ants. Sprayed where the large colony is, and then cleaned up more ants.
We should have some stragglers for a few days, but nothing like we've been having.
He gave us a good tip too. One of the best insecticides is Windex! I tried it, and it knocks those ants down dead! And it smells so much better than regular bug spray! So that is my free tip for the day.
I guess with all the things we love about living in this area, there has to be a negative. The bugs are definitely one.
Note: I mentioned the other day about a missing boy in town. Unfortunately he was found dead on Wednesday. His father is now charged with murder. I will do another post on this later. But I didn't want to leave such a tragic story hanging.
