George Is Not Nice
Michael picked out a Thomas the Tank Engine movie from the library this week. One of the "characters" in the movie is a steamroller named George. There are a lot of cranky and grumpy vehicles in this episode. I guess that's appropriate since the title story is about Cranky the Crane.
Anyway, Michael made a very insightful comment yesterday.
"George is not nice. George is not happy."
Wow! How many times do we encounter people in life who are not nice, and just assume they are bullies, bad-guys, or troublemakers?
But at almost 4 years old, Michael made the connection between someone being "not nice" and them being "not happy".
He's right. I think when most people are not nice, there is some degree of unhappiness behind it. They aren't just bad-natured or evil. They are just unhappy and have no better coping mechanism than being "not nice" to others.
I hope that this is something that Michael will hold on to through adulthood. Understanding why someone is "not nice" will help him have compassion and understanding.
A lesson that a lot of adults to use as well.
