Murder and Lingering Questions
I said I would write more about the case of little Javion Mayes, and here it is. I have been so saddened by this situation. A missing boy, around the same age as my Michael, only about 6 miles from where we live. It tears at your heartstrings, it worries you as a parent, and you pray for the child's safe return.
Unfortunately, this was not how was it was to be with Javion. Wednesday afternoon, he was found in a patch of kudzu, just 1/8 of a mile from the house where he was last seen. The coroner's report indicates that he died on Monday -- the day before his father reported him missing.
His father is now in jail, charged with murder by child abuse.
It absolutely sickens me that a parent could kill a child. What in the world has to be wrong with someone for them to resort to such actions?
But with this guy, sadly it doesn't seem surprising. The father's criminal record has been published by most all the local news organizations. His record goes back to when he was 17 years old (he is now 32), and counts up as 33 charges. As the WYFF site states, "There were several other arrests on record for crimes that were either not prosecuted or for which the charges were dismissed." It appears that about 24 of those charges were for violent crimes, such as assault and battery (including with intent to kill), criminal domestic violence, and assaulting police officers and corrections employees.
At some point, shouldn't we just lock people up and throw away the key? Is there really any chance of someone like this being rehabilitated? How is the public being protected when a life-long perpetrator of numerous violent crimes is allowed on the street?
But my questions are not just with the criminal justice system. Honestly, I think my biggest question with all of this can only be directed at God.
Why is it that someone with this guy's history is allowed to have children? Even beyond that, why is someone who has no business being a parent given children, and yet I know so many wonderful, wonderful people who suffer from infertility issues? If there were little souls to be born, why not give them to parents who will love and care for them, rather than to idiots who will allegedly kill them?
I don't understand. I'm sure I never will. But right now around Greenville, I'm sure there are a lot of people asking the same questions.
Peaceful rest to little Javion...

My mom used to say she had a list. On this list she kept her questions for God. These questions were the things that you simply can not make any sense out of -- no matter how hard you try. There are things that we can't understand and there are things that we never will. Sometimes you have to put it on your list for God, and let it go. Otherwise it will eat at you...
Take a moment and watch the sunset. Go sit by the water. Look at the clouds. This man is not humanity... You must put him out of your mind while celebrating Javion's life by enjoying the small moments of peace. Sometimes that is all we can do. I'm so sorry this happened.
Very very sad... I too always wonder what makes "people" do horrible things like that. But like grim reality girls said, it would eat at us forever to try to figure it out. God knows all and we just know some... We can sure pray and do our best to get stricter laws.
