A Brief Update

Things have been a bit crazy around here lately, thus not a lot of posts. Hopefully it will get better soon!

We attempted to go to another local Oktoberfest yesterday. I wrote last year about our disappointment with Oktoberfest in the Upstate. So surprising given the large German population and the BMW North American Headquarters being located here.

For me, this one was another disappointment. Okay, they had authentic German Oktoberfest beer, so that was a good start. (Although I do not drink, so that was no biggie for me.) They had some bands playing music, and they were okay. (Although one seemed to be attempting to play oom-pah versions of 60's classics. Kind of weird!) There were several food vendors, and their signs advertised bratwurst. (Although all but one was sold out!)

But mostly it was another typical Upstate street festival, the closed-off road lined with booths from local artisans. All showing their local work.

I would have preferred to see some German artisans. Certainly with the holidays coming up, we should have been able to get some people to bring in some of the amazing German Christmas decorations. Nothing. Some typical German crafts. Nothing.

Heck, even a booth about traveling to Germany!

But the only "booth" that was remotely German was one selling raffle tickets for an outing at the BMW Performance Driving school. (Located about 5 miles from the event, not in Germany.)

Perhaps some time we will find an Oktoberfest that is more authentically German. So far, we are still looking.
