Harry Potter
I made it, what, 10 years without ever opening a Harry Potter book. But on my weekly library outing with Michael last week, I spotted the series on the shelf, and figured I'd take a look. After all, it won't be too long until Michael is interested in chapter-books, and I better have an idea what's in the popular ones before he's ready to read.
I checked out the first in the series last Thursday, and finished it last night. Done in only 5 days. Oh I know, for you loyal Harry Potter fans out there, taking 5 days to finish one volume seems like forever. But this full-time mommy of two active little boys usually requires at least one renewal to finish your average chick-lit book. And I couldn't even imagine taking on something like War and Peace these days!
The book was good. Having seen the movie, I do think the book was much better. I understood more about the characters this way.
So today Matthew and I headed back to the library to return all our stuff and check out volume two. We'll see how long it takes for me to get through them all.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm enjoying the books, but I am still not a fan of the fantasy genre. I won't be dressing up like any Harry Potter characters for Halloween (after all, I am a grown-up, and it is a children's book!). I won't be going to any Harry Potter parties. Or joining any Harry Potter forums.
But hey, I still can't resist a silly Harry Potter internet quiz. So here it is. Post your result in the comments!
Note to my dear husband (and anyone else with his sense of humor). It says I am wise. It says I can resolve things fairly. It does NOT say I am gay! Sheesh!
