Chimney Swifts

It seems that we have chimney swifts. No, not chimney sweeps.... chimney swifts. They are birds that next in chimneys.

Yesterday we were hanging out in the family room and I heard lots of birds chirping. I thought they sounded really loud since all the doors and windows were closed.

Finally I noticed that the sound was coming from the fireplace... and thus the chimney! The baby birds have hatched, and are peeping up a storm!

I contacted an acquaintance who is a wildlife rehabilitator, and she asked that we leave them there, then get the chimney cleaned at the end of the summer.

I have no problem with that. We'll let the little baby birds stay and grow up to be big birds.

But it was comforting to know that I probably won't wind up with birds flying around the inside of my house!
