A Very Sad Day

I just got a call that my Aunt Flora died. She was 93 years old.

Aunt Flora was my mom's oldest sister. With their difference in age, and some family situations, Aunt Flora was not only a sister to my mom, but also like a second mother. Aunt Flora even lived with us for several years after her children were grown (they were my mom's age).

Her husband died while she was pregnant with her second child. She never remarried. When she was in her 60's, she decided she wanted a college degree, so she went to the University of Maryland and earned her BA degree in Art.

Aunt Flora always told people that she was my favorite babysitter. I have lots of memories of her watching me when I was a kid. I remember at her apartment when I was real little... when she got ready for bed, she took down her hair (she always wore it in a bun), and down came this REALLY long beautiful hair! I never imagined she had such hair! Another time when she was living with my Uncle Freddy (her brother), she watched me overnight on New Years Eve. They had a dinner party, complete with lobster! That was the first time I ever had lobster.

It was also so nice going back and visiting with Aunt Flora. Greg and I had hoped that the boys would get in another visit with her, but now that won't happen. So instead, I will just share some of the happy times we had with her over the past few years.

God bless you Aunt Flora. Thank you for being a wonderful aunt, and for everything you've always done for my mom.

Bless you, Susan, for the pictures especially. I only got to meet Great Aunt Flora twice in my life that I know of. I got the call Tuesday evening after the Funeral.
