Ahhhh, what a difference!
Matthew had minor surgery last Friday. (Gee, ya think things have been a bit hectic for us lately?)
His speech therapist has been recommending an ENT evaluation for months, due to his nasal voice, open-mouth posture, and extreme drooling. We finally went.
As a result, Matthew had his adenoids out, which were enlarged. There was also something else in there that was "swollen" -- some kind of "fluffy" thing. Not something I'd ever heard of before. Anyway, the doctor cauterized those as well.
Despite having been totally out for the surgery, and getting morphine in recovery, Matthew was running around Friday afternoon as if nothing had happened. The surgery did not slow him down at all.
But the best news is that everyone is noticing a difference already! His voice is not as nasally and he not drooling uncontrollably!

YAY for relief and quick recovery! Has Matthew ever had sleep issues? I'm wondering due to the adnoids thing and a big connection to sleep apnea. Just a thought -- I didn't realize my son had sleep apnea issues and can't help but preach awareness... sleep deprivation in children (not just hours, but also quality of sleep) is a major cause of ADD and ADHD type behavior in kids. I am sorry, but ENT issues make me nervous based on our slow diagnosis.... Glad Matthew is feeling better, sorry I'm a paranoid worrier.
They do say enlarged adenoids and/or tonsils correlate with sleep apnea. Not only does this lead to often misdiagnosis of ADD and ADHD but it can lead to stress on the heart as well! Literally for the child but figuratively for the parent!
