I'm All About the Drive-Thru Coffee Shops

The lifesaver for a mom of 2 kids under the age of 3 is all over down here. I'm talking about the drive-thru coffee shop! I'd occasionally seen one in other areas (okay, I only ever remember seeing ONE, and that was a Starbucks in Maryland). But there are so many here!

When you've had a rough night with the kids and are tired, but still want to make that Zoo playdate, a nice fresh latte really hits the spot. But who wants to take 2 kids out of the car? One of whom you have to carry the whole way. While the other tries to explore everything in the shop. It would be SO much easier to just drive up, get your latte and drive on. Kind of like what you can do at McDonalds or Chick-Fil-A.

There are about 6 drive-thru coffee shops, each strategically placed on my way to somewhere. They will even make custom drinks. Like today when I found a new one on our way to a park playdate. I wanted a latte. But it was hot outside. So I wanted a frozen latte. Not a mochachino, or something like that. Just espresso, skim milk, and shaved ice... all mixed together. Turns out it was the first "frozen latte" they had made, and it turned out great!

I must say I am very impressed with the coffee culture down here. Especially for a region that is mostly known for sweet tea!

Boy do I know how you feel. I had a crisis this morn, when I realized I couldn't pay at the pump, but had to take my toddler out of the car and bring him in to the cashier. He was so content back there. Ugh.

You mention the D.C. area periodically, do you come here a lot? Are you from here?
