Vacation Day 2, August 10

Believe it or not, the boys slept in until almost 8 am this morning! Of course it took forever for both of them to go to bed last night. I got to sleep with Michael. And he likes to sleep perpendicular on the bed. So I either had his head or his feet pushing on me all night. Ah well. It's cute, so I don't mind.

Today we visited the Nature Center, and went on more pony rides. Of course Michael looked at the animal displays and pointed out just one thing. He pointed and said, "Ewwwwwww!" The sign said, "raccoon scat". Great. My son is presented with all kids of nature, and he points out the poop!

Of course they also had snakes, which I can't stand. One of them is a rattlesnake. Blech! The Park Naturalist told us that he actually obtained the snake from a Pentecostal Holiness snake-handling church.

We went by the tramway to see about riding down in to the gorge. I have a major fear of heights, and one look at those things was enough to convince me not to go! They were probably about the size of the old aerial tram rides at Disney World. On a 3,600 ride, going down 1,000 in elevation. And crossing a river. No thanks. Michael took one look and said, "Uh Uh". My boy! So no tram ride for us!

Michael has been very concerned about Conny. She is at a kennel. Usually it is Michael's job to feed Conny every night, so he keeps asking if she is going to eat. And drink. It's really cute and lovable!

Matthew continues to be a little cranky. We figured out why. One of his top front teeth is just busting through. Oh joy! Thank God for infant tylenol. So this will be tooth number 3! It took quite a long time to get him to sleep. Poor guy seems to have the teething-fever. And he's just uncomfortable. Hopefully he will feel better tomorrow.

Both boys seem to be flirting with all the ladies. I think they know they are cute! We chatted with a nice older couple from Western Maryland. They had been watching Michael play on the playground from their balcony. Michael thought they were great... especially once they pulled out the cookies!

Pipestem has been a lovely place to visit. The views are magnificent. West Virginia definitely does a great job with their parks. I highly recommend visiting them. I wouldn't want to live out here in the middle of nowhere (especially raising kids), but it's a wonderful place for a vacation.
