Vacation Day 3, August 11

It was a rainy and cloudy morning. But boy did the clouds look beautiful over the gorge. Just image rolling mountains with big puffy white clouds in every crevice. That didn't make for good outdoor activities, so we had to forgo Michael's last pony ride on our way out.

We headed north towards I-64. Gosh I think it took 2 hours just to get to I-64! We did not expect that. Of course during that time, we needed to make 3 potty stops for Michael! But he continued to do great. Still not a single accident on our trip!

Finally around 3 pm, we pulled in to Charles Town, WV. We were stopping by to visit Greg's sister Susan. She is the one who just had the baby about a month ago. This was our first time seeing Susan in quite a while. It was a very nice reunion. And it was wonderful seeing Baby Kaiea for the first time! She's a cute little girl! Susan also got to meet Michael and Matthew for the first time.

At one point, we all noticed that our conversations had focused on baby stuff. Diaper ointments, etc. We joked about how 5 or 6 years ago, our conversations would have been totally different. But once babies come along, conversations change! Suddenly you're talking about bodily functions with other parents over dinner in a restaurant!

Our visit with Susan and Kaiea was lovely. Greg summed it up best as we were driving away. He said, "If we had driven all the way up here just for this visit, it would have been worth it." Susan, I hope you know how much enjoyed the visit, and we look forward to seeing you, Jeremy and Kaiea in one of the Carolinas again soon!

After leaving, we drove to Mom Mom & Pop Pop's house. Michael has been talking about this part of the trip non-stop for a week. Asking if we are going to Mom Mom & Pop Pop's house. He was so excited to see them! We all shared a nice dinner, and then headed off to bed.

But getting to sleep was not easy. Matthew is still having a really rough time. In fact last night, I hardly slept much at all, having to get up with him over and over again. He seemed very warm, was extremely fussy, and just wanted to be held.

It was the same way this morning. We actually question whether or not we should continue on the trip. Especially since we were going to visit a new baby, and not knowing if Matthew was sick. But we decided to venture on.

Then I realized what the problem was. I've mentioned that Matthew was cutting another tooth. Well, I was right and I was wrong. Teeth were involved. But it wasn't one. It was FOUR! Four teeth coming in at one time! No wonder the little guy feels miserable.

Thankfully he slept most of the trip to Charles Town, and we were all able to enjoy an absolutely wonderful visit!
