Vacation Day 5, August 13
After a morning spending relaxing around the house, Glenn, Emily, Erika, and Mark joined all of us here for brunch. (This is my brother and his family.) It was great seeing them again! Glenn and Emily are Matthew's Godparents as well. Mark really did a great job playing with Michael. It's neat seeing an older cousin like that with his little cousin. We definitely do not expect the older kids to entertain the younger kids, but it is really great when the older kids WANT to play with them. We also got to hear some about Erika's upcoming 9th grade year in school!
Our afternoon had been totally unplanned when we started up here. Greg just wanted a relaxing day, not something booked end-to-end. But when we drove in on Friday, we saw the ferris wheel at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Oh my gosh! That's right! It's mid-August! That means the fair is on!
I grew up going to that fair every year. At one point, it was the largest county fair on the East Coast. I've never been much for the rides, but I love seeing all the animals. Greg also remembers going when he was young. Needless to say, going to the fair was a must! It was great! I don't think that fair has changed since I was little. And it shouldn't. It is perfect just the way it is.
I think Michael's favorite part was being able to pet the bunnies. Either that or seeing the ducks and geese in the little duck pond. He wasn't very interested in the pigs though, which was surprising. He loves the movies Babe and Charlotte's Web, so we figured the pigs would be a big hit. Of course those big pigs at the fair look quite a bit different than little Babe and Wilbur!
The day wrapped up with a dinner visit by Mrs. Glang, my parents next door neighbor. I've actually known them all my life. They are long-time friends of my parents. She is always fun to visit with.
