A Pout and a Praise
First the pout. WalMart is not very family friendly. I know, it's WalMart. What should I expect?
Today, Matthew and stopped at WalMart in between our Moms Club coffee-chat and picking up Michael from preschool. Matthew was riding in the seat of the buggy, like normal. We finished shopping and paid for our stuff. I wanted to stop in the restroom before we left.
So we approached the restroom. There was a sign on the door that said, "No merchandise in the restrooms." Well, if you've paid for it, it's not merchandise anymore, right? It's personal property. But just to be sure, I approached a cashier. (I will say, the cashiers at WalMart here are a step above cashiers at WalMart back north.)
I told her I had already paid for everything, but I needed to use the restroom. I was just going to push the buggy in there with me, since I had Matthew. (The bathrooms are huge, so the buggy size would not have been an issue.) And the conversation ensued.
Cashier: "No, you cannot take the cart in there!"
Me: "But I need to use the restroom, and I've got my baby with me."
Cashier: "Well, you can just leave it out here."
Me: "With my baby in it?
Cashier: [shrugged her shoulders]
Me: "That's okay. I'll go somewhere else."
Seriously, I understand about preventing shoplifting, but what is a parent with a small child supposed to do? It seems my options were, 1) Leave Matthew and the cart out in the store unattended, 2) Carry Matthew in to the restroom with me, and either try to balance him on my lap or let him sit on the floor, or 3) Go somewhere else.
Obviously the only solution was to go somewhere else.
Couldn't they have done something to try to help? I guess that's what you get for paying the cheapest prices.
And no for my praise! (Also related to cheap prices...)
Today I paid $2.26 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas! That is $1.09 cheaper than it was near my parent's house in Maryland last month!
I'm not one to complain about gas prices. Even when they were $3.00 a gallon. But it still feels pretty cool to find prices so cheap! (And no, I didn't use the gas station restroom instead!)
