Vacation Day 3: December 18
Our plan for today was to visit Epcot. Of course flexibility is always required when dealing with kids.
We did go to Epcot. First we went on Spaceship Earth, the ride through the big sphere (aka, ball, golf ball, etc.). It hasn't changed a whole lot since the last time we were here. The boys were not real thrilled with it being in the dark, but Michael especially seemed to enjoy the planetarium-type thing towards the end.
After that, we headed to Living Seas. This is the huge aquarium at Epcot, and always a favorite of ours. In fact, Greg did the Disney Quest thing a few years ago, and was able to scuba dive in the aquarium. Pretty cool! They've remodeled the first half of the Living Seas to be a Nemo & Friends ride. It's cute. If you like Nemo. But it's not real fish! The whole area where you used to ride through a glass tunnel in the aquarium is GONE. All covered up to be part of the Nemo ride. After the ride, you can still go upstairs to observe the fish, but I honestly wasn't as impressed as I had been in the past. It didn't seem like that had as much stuff. Hardly any sharks, and no sea turtle. And I didn't see a single dolphin in the dolphin tank.
I had heard that World Showcase was done up really well for Christmas. Another disappointment. World Showcase is fabulous, but I guess I expected more for the holidays. Like the opportunity to really see how holidays are celebrated in different parts of the world. Nope. At this point, Michael started saying, "Go see Mickey Mouse!" So after eating lunch in "Mexico", we hopped the monorail back to Magic Kingdom.
Michael and Matthew got to see the parade again, this time with Greg while I went shopping. Got to buy those stocking stuffers! And I ended up with a really cool pair of Crocs for myself! Disney Crocs! The little holes are all shaped like Mickey Mouse's head! Too cool! Since I love Crocs, I thought it was the perfect "souvenir" for me.
Finally we went on the ride to end all rides. At least in the eyes of a three year old. The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh. Michael has been totally fascinated with Pooh this trip. He loved the ride. Matthew seemed to enjoy it as well.
We headed home around dinner time, to enjoy a nice takeout chicken dinner from the grocery store.
We have been really pleased with how well the boys have done at the parks. They are getting along in the rented double-stroller. No fighting going on! Michael is old enough now that he can really understand and get excited about what he sees. And Matthew is just taking it all in. Pointing at all sorts of stuff. And enjoying music!
Thankfully the boys went to bed easily tonight. It's been a long few nights, so we are thankful to be able to get some Z's!
