Vacation Day 6: December 21

Our last day in the theme parks. Today we went to Disney's Animal Kingdom, or as Michael calls it, "Mickey Mouse's Zoo". First off was Kilimajaro Safari. That is one of the best rides in all of the parks. It is so neat to see the animals in their "natural" environment. Michael was pretty excited to see the giraffes, and I was pretty excited to see the baby giraffe!

We had reservations for the Donald Breakasaurus -- a breakfast buffet with characters. The food is always great! And you get to meet Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Pluto and Goofy! The boys loved it as always. Michael made friends with a little girl at the next table. They were doing a lot of jumping, spinning, and other things to pass the time until the characters came.

And then came the low-point of the day. The Boneyard. Remember that "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" playground from Disney-MGM? Well, this is the dinosaur explorer version. Lots of things to climb, and lots of slides. But it too should have a different name. Perhaps, "The Lost Kids Yard". Today was our turn. Greg was out watching a sleeping Matthew, and I was in with Michael. It is really easy to lose sight if the kids in there. And that's just what happened. I looked and looked for 10 minutes, and couldn't find Michael. Finally I decided to start climbing up so I could get a bird's-eye-view of the playground. Then I noticed a bridge. To another play area. With a sandbox. When I got over there, there was a Disney cast member right there with Michael, pretty much following him around. I went over right away, and found Michael with quite a bit of sand on his head. The case member asked if Michael had been lost. Yep. Another mom came up to me. She noticed his "name tag", and her husband was on the phone with Greg right then. We put little laminated cards on each of the boys with our cellphone numbers. That way if they got lost, someone could easily find us. Didn't think we'd actually need it. But it turns out we did.

The rest of the day was spent walking around and looking at the animals. We took a ride out to Rafiki's Planet Watch, and the boys got to pet and brush goats and sheep. That was fun! We never made it to any shows though. It just wasn't the day for shows.

After the afternoon parade, we decided to wrap things up at Animal Kingdom. We went back over to Disney-MGM to get one more look at those amazing lights. And then back home to the hotel to start packing.
