Vacation Day 7: December 22
We packed up and left the hotel this morning. Michael must have enjoyed it, because he kept saying, "Michael come back to hotel!" In reality, I think he liked sleeping in the "bye bye bed" (inflatable bed), riding the elevators, and making the automatic doors open and close. You just can't have fun like that at home!
Our plan for the day was to head to Kennedy Space Center. What an amazing place, and such history! I've mentioned before on the blog that my dad spent many years working for NASA (Goddard Space Flight Center), and so I was raised in a "NASA family". We've always followed the space program closely, and I find it fascinating.
We went through some of the buildings and explored the exhibits. Michael particularly liked the "space man" (astronaut) whenever we would see him. (By the way, Michael is definitely following in Mommy's space legacy, as he is fascinated by the moon and space. He also liked climbing in to the different space capsules. I asked him if he wanted to be a "space man" when he grows up, and he said no. I asked him what he did want to be and he said, "A big boy!" Cute kid! The playground was also a huge hit.
Although it would have been great to go on the bus tour of the complex, we decided against it on this trip. The tour is a good two hours long -- much too long for a 3 year old and a 1 year old. KSC will always be there, and we can bring them back again when they are older.
After lunch, we all climbed in the car and headed North. We had originally planned on staying in Florida until Saturday morning, but decided to cut it short a day. Conny the dog has been in the kennel (or the "doggy hotel", as Michael calls it), and they are closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. And Saturdays they close at 12 noon. So we decided to drive halfway Friday night, and the rest on Saturday so we could be home in time to pick Conny up before Christmas!
But the traffic was moving pretty well, and the boys were behaving, so we decided to just push on through! Lots of rain, and we saw at least 3 major accidents. (Thankfully all on the Southbound side of I-95.) But we finally made it home about 11:15 p.m.
It was a wonderful vacation. The boys really seemed to take it all in and have an absolute blast. Mommy and Daddy had a blast too.
