The Elephants On Parade!

Tonight the Ringling Bros & Barnum Bailey Circus starts downtown at the Bi-Lo Center. Which means the animals came to town! Yesterday was the official animal parade through the streets of Greenville.

Matthew and I were perfectly planted with some friends at the corner of Washington & Richardson. (Michael was at preschool.) We waited and waited.... and waited some more!

But then there they were! The elephants on parade!

In all my years, I had never been to the circus animal parade. In DC, it was either in a part of town you just didn't want to go to, or it was just too much of a hassle to get there. (Because it is a hassle to get ANYWHERE around DC!)

The parade was made up of about 8 elephants, 6 horses, and 3 miniature ponies. Matthew looked absolutely amazed.

After the animals had passed, along came a "clown" (without his makeup or costume) handing out free clown-noses to all the kids. "Harvested from real clowns!", he said.

We had so much fun at the parade that now I'm almost regretting that we are not taking the boys this year. But we've already gone twice, and we just can't afford to go every year!

The parade was totally worth it, and we'll be back again next time the circus comes to town! I heard that it is especially fun down by the train station, because you can actually watch the elephants and other animals coming off the railroad cars! Too cool!
