The Great Communicators

I haven't written much about the boys in a while, so here is the latest.

Michael and I had some interesting conversations last night. He talks about Mom Mom & Pop Pop all the time, but last night was different. He's been saying that he wants to go to Mom Mom & Pop Pop's house. He hasn't been there since August. So he started talking all about their house.

"Michael's room at Mom Mom & Pop Pop's house has two doors!"

Why yes, in fact it does have two doors!

"One door opens. One door stays closed."

Um, YES! Exactly!

"Michael's room at Mom Mom & Pop Pop's house has two beds!"

In fact it does have two beds!

"One bed up high. One bed down low."

It is a trundle bed, so yes, there is one up high and one down low!

Although he talks about Mom Mom & Pop Pop a lot, we've never had a conversation about any details of their house, other than the garage door. He is obsessed with garage doors, and frequently talks about how Mom Mom opens Mom Mom's garage door. So everything about "Michael's room" is totally from his own memory. I was quite impressed.

Just as an aside, there really is no "Michael's room" at Mom Mom & Pop Pop's house. They have two guest rooms. He just always happens to sleep in the same one. But so does every other kid that comes to visit, and sometimes adults too.

Now let's move to Matthew.

Last night we all went for an evening walk. Since Matthew is toddling now, we leave the stroller at home and let him walk too. Our route is probably 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile long. Last night Matthew walked about half of it all by himself. Not bad for a boy who's only been walking at all for a month! He started toddling, and then he just took off!

Matthew has also started playing peek-a-boo. No, not just responding to ours. But covering up his own face, and then pulling his hands away with excitement when we say, "peek-a-boo!" It's too cute! Then when whenever we say, "Yeah Matthew!", he starts clapping his hands furiously and smiling the biggest grin. Finally, he's definitely starting to communicate when he doesn't want something. He is a master of shaking his head back and forth for "no", and saying, "UH UH!"

Can you tell I love my boys? Who wouldn't? They're the best!
