The Big Upstate Winter Storm
We've now experienced our second winter storm since moving to South Carolina.
Admittedly the one in December 2005 (the day Matthew was born!) was a doozie. Many people were without power for up to a week. Fortunately we were largely unaffected, other than losing a bunch of tree branches, as seen in this picture.
Today's storm managed to pretty much shut down the whole Upstate of South Carolina. Over 500 closings were listed on the local news channel's website this morning. That's a lot of closings! People were being warned to stay off the roads. In anticipation of the storm, yesterday there was a run on milk, bread, heaters, and generators.
Well, this is a picture of our house today. Of course it is all lovely. But I guess you just can't take the memory of almost 38 years of DC-area winter storms out of me quite so quick. Our whopping less-than-an-inch of snow and slushy roads just aren't what I'm used to!
When I look at Michael in this picture from January 2005, I can't help but giggle a little at our big South Carolina winter storm!

Looks like fun. We had snow once so far in D.C. My son loved it and the next day when it had ALL MELTED wanted to be pulled in the sled. I just inched him along in the grass. It just depressed us both. Oh well.

Sounds like you moved to SC about the same time we did. We moved here during that ice storm in 2005! I agree with you, after living in Indiana all my life, this "winter storm" is amusing to me as are the reactions to it.
