Myrtle Beach Day 7, Friday July 4

Happy Independence Day!

Out to breakfast at Dino's again this morning. We wound up with the same server as last time, and she remembered both of the boys' names! With all the different people who must come in and out of there, that was a big compliment! (Yes, it was a compliment, because the boys behaved well the first time in there, so she didn't remember them for the wrong reason!)

When it was time to go down to the beach, Michael wanted to wear his life-vest. We figured that meant he wanted to go back in the ocean. But really not. Both boys were up to their ankles for a bit, but really had little interest in the ocean.

They played in the sand for a while too, but then just wanted to go to the pool.

Michael's swimming is really improving. He can now go about 5 feet swimming without any flotation assistance! Then he gets tired and sinks. So I think his upcoming swim lessons will be good!

Matthew mostly likes to get bounced around while holding on to Mommy in the pool. He also likes the floating things on the pool rope (the one between the shallow and deep ends). We'll spread them all out evenly, and then he likes to push them all back together. And repeat the whole process over and over again!

We had some really nice naps today. Oh gosh, I could have slept for hours. After naps, we were back for a quick dip in the pool.

Dinner tonight was at Phillip's Crabhouse. Yes, it's the same one that originated in Ocean City, Maryland. I had to go. I absolutely LOVE crabcakes, but in the South, they just don't make them the way I like them. It seems that southern crabcakes use either claw or stringy backfin crab, and then make them in a way that seems closer to deviled crab.

I don't like deviled crab.

So since we haven't had good Mid-Atlantic crabcakes in a very long time, we were off to the institution of crabcakes. They didn't disappoint! Yumm! Big huge chunks of crabmeat! Oh it was wonderful! The only drawback was that apparently the restaurant got a "very large carry-out order", and so it seemed to take forever for our entree to come. By that time, the boys had really worn out their good behavior, so we couldn't just sit and savor the crabcakes.

Afterwards we went back to Broadway at the Beach so the boys could do some kiddy-rides. Boy are those expensive here! Three dollars a ride! WOW! Fortunately at their ages, they can just go on a few and be done with it.

Around 9 pm back at the condo, we started hearing the familiar pop pop pop of fireworks! The boys were in bed, but I walked downstairs to watch a little. There were fireworks going off literally up and down the beach! As far as the eye could see! Some looked like they were being shot off by a resort, and others were just joe-schmoe on the beach. It was just amazing to
watch! At almost 10 pm as I write this, they are still going.

Ah yes, that reminds me... last night someone was shooting off fireworks at 1:00 a.m. I'm all for some good fireworks, but that time is a little ridiculous!

Tomorrow we are heading for home. It's been a wonderful week... the only big drawback is that it went to fast and lasted too short.
