Frankly, Barney
Representative Barney Frank (Dem, MA) needs to just shut up.
Following today's defeat of the $700 billion financial bail-out bill, Rep. Frank stated, "The Republicans killed this.'' (See www.bloomberg.com.)
Unfortunately, he fails to consider that only 140 of the 235 Democrats in the House voted in favor of the bill. That means 40% voted against it. Yes, they voted in favor of it in greater numbers than the Republicans (65 of the 199 Republicans voted in favor of the bill).
The Democrats hold the majority in the House, and thus could pass any bill that does not require a 2/3 majority entirely on their own. That includes this bill.
Don't get me wrong. I am not blaming the Democrats for not passing the bill. I honestly cannot say whether I support the bill or not. I think SO many people need to be held accountable, from the top executives all the way down to the lenders and even the consumers who took out loans they could not afford.
But the truth is that this bill was not passed, and that was the result of votes from BOTH parties.
Perhaps the first step in solving all the problems our country is dealing with right now is to just throw out all the members of the House of Representatives and bring in new ones. Their approval rating as a whole is even lower than the President's. They clearly are interested only in partisan ramblings, not working to really help this country.
Frankly, Barney, enough is enough.
