Random Saturday Musings
Football
Another sign that we are living in the right place -- football is big down here! It is amazing on fall Saturdays to see all the cars heading to the Clemson and South Carolina games. I've never seen anything like it back around DC. Clemson and SC are big deals, and fans are very loyal to their teams. Heading out this morning, I'd guess every fourth car had it's Clemson decorations, headed for tailgating at the game.
I've heard that college football has a bigger following here because for so long there were no pro teams in the Carolinas. So if you wanted football, you followed the college teams.
It could also have something to do with the fans in general. At my University, the fans are awful. A bunch of cursing drunks wearing obscene clothing chanting obscene cheers and rioting in the streets after big games. My sister is a Clemson grad. She remembers the students dressing up for football games, and behaving like proper young men and women in the stands. Is it still the same today? I don't know. But it can't be as bad as at my University.
In any case, you just can't help but feel in the football spirit here on Saturdays!
Fun at the Zoo
We spent a few hours today at our favorite Upstate attraction, the Greenville Zoo. It was our family celebration of one year in South Carolina!
There was a special treat awaiting us at the zoo today. A new elephant! Joy the elephant is still there, but the zoo acquired a second elephant. They will have to slowly introduce the two pachyderms and see if they will get along. If so, we have another big fun animal to see when we visit!
We got a couple good shots of the kids at the zoo. I'll try to post them on the website later.
