My Heart Melted!
Tonight was our Wednesday night at church. At the beginning of the semester, we spent 6 weeks teaching the 3 & 4 year olds. You can read about that here and here. But since we have so much going on right now, we decided to take a teaching break after our 6-week session. Michael has continued to attend the classes, but we do other things during that time.
So at 7:25 this evening, I went to pick Michael up from his class. It is a large room, and the kids were all playing in the back part of the room.
I wasn't there but a few seconds when little M saw me. She came running over with a huge smile on her face. I squatted down and she gave me the biggest hug! I told her I had missed her. She said, "I know, but it's not your turn to teach right now!"
Then four other kids came running over! A & L (girls) and D & A (boys). They all threw their arms around me!
It's really nice when you volunteer for something and someone says thank you. We've certainly been thanked many times by the parents and by the Director of Children's Ministries. And they've told us how much the kids liked our classes.
But is a totally different things when the kids think enough of you that they come running and give you the biggest hugs when they see you! It's nice with the parents and administrators like what you're doing. But the whole point is about making a difference in the lives of the children.
Tonight, I found out that I really did make a difference. It totally made my heart melt. It was just the kind of boost I needed. And it is great to know that my boys are growing up with such amazing kids. We really did hit the jackpot when we found our church!
