New Nativity Set!
Greg found the neatest nativity set online the other day. It is a Fisher Price Little People set. Yes, just like all those other Little People toys, only this one is the nativity. Here is a picture:
We always have a nativity set up in our house from the First Sunday of Advent through The Epiphany. But it's never been one that the kids could interact with, other than helping to put Baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas morning.
My regular nativity set is very special. It began back in the early 1990's when my parents were living in Paris, France. I was over visiting, and saw the provincial French santons. The santons (people and animals in the nativity scene) are all handmade from clay and handpainted. They are beautiful.
So my parents bought me the basic pieces, and I had the start of my nativity set. My sister (the architect) built a little stable for them (which also conveniently converts to a storage box!).
Through the years, each time my parents have returned to visit France, they've brought me back another santon to add to my set. I probably have 15 - 20 pieces now.
These are not pieces I would want children playing with. But at the same time, wouldn't it be great if we did have a nativity set that the kids could play with, while along the way learning about the true meaning of Christmas!
So our new Fisher Price Little People Nativity Set should be arriving in the next week. We'll set it up in a kid-friendly location once Advent starts, and the boys will have their own little nativity to play with.
