Myrtle Beach Day 5, Wednesday July 2
We had some ideas of what to do today, but the day turned out much different than planned!
We hoped to go back to Dino's for breakfast, but Michael insisted on eating at home. We definitely tried the "do you want yummy pancakes or COLD CEREAL" thing, but he was not biting.
Then we planned to go to the beach for a few hours. Again, Michael did NOT want to go to the beach. I think the waves freaked him out a bit yesterday. They weren't high or anything, but perhaps a little higher for him than he was really comfortable with.
So we decided to drive to Wilmington, NC to visit their Railroad Museum. Matthew is just ga-ga over trains, so we figured this would be a perfect day trip.
We were right!
The museum was small but nice. They had a big engine with coal-tender, a boxcar, and a caboose. We were able to go in to all of them. Inside there were lots of historical displays about railroading, and also several large model railroad displays. The kids were able to push buttons to make different things go. In addition, there was a kids train play area... books, toy trains for all ages, and a climb-in play train.
Michael said his favorite thing there was the model where a car came out of a garage, pulled around to the gas station, gassed up, and went back to the garage.
Matthew said his favorite thing there was THOMAS! Of course!
Afterwards we had lunch at the Dixie Cafe on the main Market Street. It was not what I expected, but still very good! I thought it would be your standard diner, but it turned out to be a rather artsy-eclectic type place.
We walked a little bit, seeing lots of boats and ships along the waterfront, then drove back to Myrtle Beach.
I visited the Disney Outlet store (lots of great deals!), and then we had dinner at the Chesapeake House. It was good, kind of an expected kind of meal. Nothing to write home about, but apparently good enough to blog about! The big draw for us here was that the restaurant sat on a lake, and you could watch turtles and alligators while you ate. The boys got a kick out of the alligators.
We fell asleep (or at least tried to!) listening to fireworks being shot off on the beach.
